Supertooth starts a panic at the Disco!,

The DISCO is a Bluetooth-connected speaker bar from SuperTooth, a French company that has manufactured more than 5 million sound-related gadgets from its R&D lab and factory in the Philippines. (I bring that up because… hey… Pinoys gotta represent!)
The Disco is 12″ long, 2-1/2″ deep and 3-1/2″ tall. It weighs about 3 lbs, with case and adapter, and uses a relatively straightforward “sound bar” design with two forward-facing speakers and a neodymium woofer. It uses Bluetooth A2DP 2.0 to wirelessly link with your compatible device. It also includes a standard 3.5 mm stereo jack to connect non-Bluetooth equipped devices to the unit.
The Disco has a control wheel and panel on its right face that toggle the functions of the sound bar and gives you control over your Bluetooth linked media device. You can adjust volume, play, pause, move forward and back, as well as tweak your bass settings with a button that boosts the power going to the woofer.
Supertooth includes a sturdy padded neoprene case to protect and carry your speaker. The lid folds back underneath the case and the Disco can be used while still in the enclosure. The case includes a pull out flap in the back to give you access to power and audio ports, and a grill that allows the subwoofer to breathe.
Pairing the Disco with a compatible Bluetooth device is fairly simple. With the device off, you press the power button for 5 second. When the power light switches between blue and amber, the Disco is now discoverable. You then instruct your Bluetooth device to connect to the Disco, using the standard (and completely useless) “super secret to anyone who has never heard of password security” PIN of “0000″.
We tested the Disco with an iPhone 3G and 3Gs, a first-generation non-Bluetooth equipped iPod touch, several laptops and iPad and a few generic audio devices. It should work just fine with iPhone 4, compatible Blackberry and Android phones, as well as ANY device that supports the A2DP standard.
The Disco will pair with up to 8 devices at a time. Should you attempt to connect more, the Disco will automatically discard the pairing that is least used. Though only one Bluetooth device can be connected at any given time, the Disco allows for simultaneous connection of devices through Bluetooth and the stereo jack. That feature is useful for those who want to the use the Disco as a desktop sound bar while still allowing for easy connectivity for their mobile devices.
The Disco has plenty of power for it size. Supertooth equipped the Disco with left and right speakers each supplied with 8 watts of power, and a neodynium subwoofer with its own 12 watt amp. The 28 watts of power give you a surprising amount of volume and the enclosure makes the best of that power.
The Disco is powered by an internal battery that is rated to last between 3 and 10 hours depending on how loud you play your music. I was able to squeeze 8 hours play while listening to podcasts, but one of my coworkers drained the unit in just over 3 with some loud hard-core music that had most of us running for the exits. Standby power is rated for 1,500 hours. (The approximate length of a drive through the boring part of Kansas – Sorry Kansas) The included AC adapter is small, light, and capable of charging the unit from dead to full in just under 6 hours, or continuously powering the Disco for when you’re using the unit on a desk or static location.
Enough about the specs. How does it perform? In a word, “depends…” (No–the other kind)
The bottom line is that you need to consider what you listen to. If you’re a classical music nut and anything but perfection drives you crazy, look elsewhere as the bass-heavy Disco tends to muddle highs and midrange during the quiet parts… especially since Bluetooth can introduce some artifacts into the audio if you’re in a 2.4 Ghz unfriendly zone.
Still, that’s not to say that it’s not a good gadget – because it is. We were surprised by the overall quality of the sound coming out of such a small speaker and that quality was most evident when listening to pop, techno, jazz or podcasts. Of course it has its shortcomings, but if you want a well-rounded portable speaker that is a well-designed audio companion on the desk or on the road, the Disco might be for you.

|Great little boomer!,
Bought this after looking at a number of other bluetooth speakers. Tried the Jambox at the Apple store – junk sound for the money!! The Zeppelin is great but bigger and more money than I wanted to spend.
This speaker is powerful, really powerful – a little bit of distortion when you really crank it up but otherwise very good sound. It paired to my iPhone quickly with no hassle – you can even use the pause, forward and back buttons as well with not only your ipod but with Pandora. Also has a bass boost but found it unnecessary as it has a bass port in back that works good.
Has a nicely designed carrying case made of neoprene as well. Highly recommended. Oh, not sure what the difference is between this and the BlueAnt version, but they look identical and this once is $60 cheaper.

|this is your choice,
For those of you who are obsessed with researching a product before buying, like me, let me do you a favor. Purchase this one and you will be happy. I’ve gone through the Jawbone, the ClarityHD (by Monster) and this, with there being absolutely no contest. This thing might not be as portable as the other two, but man it sounds fantastic, has an incredible battery life and produces some amazing bass for its size. I may still keep the Jawbone for business trips, going to the beach, etc. but for room-filling sound around the house – its all about the disco.
