Okay – first – when we think of wireless speaker – we think of music that can be streamed from any devices in any room to the speakers that are placed in any room right? And this Sony SANS400 HomeShare speaker should do that right? It is sleek – super cool looking and it sounds like it might have really good beat coming out of it.

WRONG!!! The set up is a pain the you know what. It is not easy to set up at all. You cannot simply use any apps to play with this speaker. This speaker is very SELECTIVE on the music source. Even with my Sony Tablet S (which I LOVE – and it is supposed to work seamlessly with the tablet) it does not work that well at all. All the DLNA crap (who the heck cares) that does not allow me to stream any music ie from Pandora to the speaker – you have to download the music ONTO your tablet – or your computer have to have compatible software in order to successfully stream the music to this speaker.

Gee Sony I thought that you would have learn from your mistakes (having close systems and letting Apple gain the music market share) but I think you still have a LOT to learn. Quit using proprietary technology – give me something that works!! And it should be something that I can use it easily. The amount of frustration garnered from this speaker (and the realization of what it cannot do) is just too much. Don’t waste your time on this big piece of junk.

The speaker works fine with my Sony BluRay wifi stereo system and has good fidelity. However, we can’t use it as we wanted to because it has limited range. It will play for a while, then cut out in most places unless it is close to the wifi signal. The stronger your wifi signal, the better it will work for you. It works without software using my ipod connected to the BluRay stereo as a source. However, I have a Macbook, and Sony does not provide Mac software to enable it to stream from my computer. I had to download an outside program, eyeconnect for it work, which is only free for 30 days. I find it lame that Sony does not provide Mac software with the product. I got busy and missed the 30 day return deadline, so I am stuck with it. I would prefer just normal wireless speakers to this contraption.

You can’t use it with iTunes if you have a PC. What’s the point if you have an iPad and want to use it with your PC system. You have to move all your music to windows media player. Who uses an iPad with windows media player. If they ever get an app for iTunes, purchase this item, until they do, don’t waste your money.
