I didn’t know just how bad my laptop speakers were until I installed this!,
I have a 17″ HP Entertainment Laptop. It’s supposed to have some pretty good Altec Lansing top firing speakers and I’ve always thought they were decent until I installed this. The sound was much richer and even at full volume I did not detect any significant distortion.
This is the best laptop-specific speaker I’ve ever tried. The clip on design gets the speakers off your desk and the USB connection allows the speakers to be used anywhere, even while the laptop is sitting on your lap. The sound controls are simple. The speaker has an on/off button as well as volume up and down. That’s it. It’s simple and just brings a higher quality sound to the laptop without being obtrusive or bulky.
The length of the speaker is very well thought out. It’s about 2″ too short from extending the full length of my laptop. I would imagine they’re a bit big for smaller laptops and just right for the average 15.4″ laptop screen.
The carrying case is a nice touch if you travel, but I think even without the case these speakers will be fine. They’re very sturdy and have no soft parts that can be easily damaged.
If portability is important to you, and you listen to music, play games, or chat on web cam, I think you will really enjoy these speakers. For $59.99 it’s a very cheap way to upgrade your laptops sound system.

|Ridiculously Good,
Let me preface this by saying two things. One: I almost never write reviews on products I buy. Two: I take my music seriously. I use a pair of $1,600.00 professional studio monitors for my desktop speakers.
Now the review. I needed something portable for a new 15.6″ HP laptop. The reviews on this were good so I figured it was worth a try. I wasn’t expecting much given the small size, USB power source, and low price.
When I fired this up for the first time, my jaw was on the floor! This thing is ridiculously good. Obviously, it doesn’t output much mid or low base, but above that this thing is great! It puts out enough volume that I had to turn it down slightly in a 10′ x 12′ room. The sound is what I would expect from something costing hundreds of dollars, not $60.00. This thing has “air”, it has a flat sounding frequency response, it’s just amazing.
To the reviewers who are complaining that the price is high, I say: You’ve got to be kidding! For the sound quality it produces, this thing is stupid cheap.
I can’t recommend this unit highly enough.

|Just What I’ve been Looking For…,
As a seasoned traveler/road warrior of >14 years, I have learned every little nuance to make the travel “experience” more efficient. I have tried literally dozens of notebook/laptop external speakers from HP, Sony, Microsoft and even Logitech. Finally, a notebook speaker or should I say SOUND BAR for that is really what this item is in all actuality. If you own a home theater setup, you may be familiar with sound bars already.
This Logitech Z305 is more than just an external speaker for a laptop computer…it’s a huge stepup from the factory installed sound system…with one caveat: it’s only as good as your sound card itself. As the old cliche goes “garbage in = garbage out” right?
In order to get it to work, I had to do a slight side-step to Control Panel and change the default settings for Sound thus bypassing the factory preset default. Logitech does a great job with the user manual (aka “quick setup guide”) and it explains what to do if you don’t get sound immediately. As stated, it was simply a matter of changing one setting in Control Panel/Sound.
As for the design, it’s GORGEOUS! Intuitively engineered with sleek lines and yet Logitech managed to retain user-friendly experience too. So simple, with just one USB 2.0 plug-n-play that can hideaway as needed unlike the zillions of other external speaker systems with ugly & obtrusive wires cluttering the desk. Honestly, with it clipped onto the rear part of my 12.1″ widescreen LCD display I barely know it’s there except for the magnificent sound.
Rich mid-tones, subtle but distinct bass without any of that typical “tinny” metallic reverberations. I just finished watching “Robin Hood” on Blu-Ray and the sound had me immersed completely….nearly as good as my $2000 hometheater system.
I’m a little disappointed in the $59 price tag and I am very sure that will come down after this product has been out for a while longer! All in all, it’s a very good buy for anybody with a laptop/notebook and desiring awesome sound quality.
