Great little addition to your cheapie netbook, no power necessary,
I have a cheap little insperion netbook with tiny, tinny, barely audible speakers. These little babies clip right on to the top of the netbook and produce a respectable (not loud, but does the trick) sound WITHOUT a separate power source. They’re USB powered, which was the biggest selling point for me. I didn’t want to compromise the uber-portability of a wee little laptop by plugging in a cumbersome cord or clumsily dragging along detached speakers.
It doesn’t seem to make a dramatic difference in the battery life, but I’m sure there’s some impact. There’s a power switch, so if you don’t need sound, you can turn them off and not take power without having to detach/unplug them.
The sound isn’t going to blow anyone away, but it’s perfect to use outside or in the kitchen (plenty audible over the fan/fridge/dehumidifier), or around the house. Now I can watch a netflix movie or hulu show or listen to pandora or npr anywhere in the house without any trouble. And the price was dandy. Yay!

|Soundbar,
I like this soundbar a lot. It is very portable and the sound quality is very good. It comes with a nice carrying case.
It is perfect for my laptop. It is a little too big for my netbook, but I still use it.
It needs two connections usb for power and audio connection (the cables are built into the soundbar).

|Cheap, broke immediately,
I did not buy this from Amazon, instead I read the reviews on here and purchased these speakers at my local computer accessories store. There were two kinds there, these and a set from Logitech for 50 bucks. I thought I’d give the cheap no-name speakers a try if i knew i could take them back. I guess it was wirth a shot. For speakers in this price range, these sounded decent. Not much bass but i didnt expect that. basically they served to amplify my laptop speakers, which generally suck. Or at least they did for two days until my husband and I watched Colbert Report on hulu and the audience cheering was apparently enough to blow the speakers completly. I took them back and got the Logitech speakers which sound about the same but haven’t broken yet. we’ll see!
